Adiós, Home! Hola, Austin!

I saw you as a diamond in the rough, a sub-tropical fantasy, a 1930's dream home.

I cleaned you up, brought you to life. I made you fresh again.

I tasted the summer grapes from the arbor over the fountain, looked out my sun room window to see giant sunflowers staring back at me. I ran in circles chasing my dog from room to room, napped in your quiet peace and fell in love in your garden.

You will always be my first home, My first project and most importantly my first love.

Farewell, 805 Coleman Avenue.

It was time, I could have worked on my beloved apartment for years before I got the perfection that I desired. So, I have decided to make the move to Austin, Texas. I'm planning to go a lot further in my career here and have a lot more fun as well! Austin is known for its music but I can't wait to dive into it's design world. I cannot express how excited I am.

Things I'm looking forward to in Austin and the look we are leaning towards in the new apartment:
This would make an amazing light fixture.

Distressed mirrors.

Punchy fun.

Chalkboard Paint: Cliché

I apologize. Someone has to blow the whistle.

It's true...I too love the functionality and D.I.Y ease of painting something with chalkboard paint and have taken part in this trend.

Chalkboard paint is wonderful because it adds contrast to a space, is easily changeable and extremely functional for making lists, writing down ideas, leaving love notes...
But come'on!

I hope I'm not the only one who feels like this trend has gone a little overboard(Think birds on everything...that kinda overboard.) It seems like nearly every post on many of the major design blogs(not naming names.) features a chalkboard in the kitchen, on the fridge, anywhere! This trend is no longer surprising, exciting or inspiring. I think it's time to look into new ways of making notes. It can still be easy, it can still be edgy, but please lets not make it chalky.

Stay Inspired!

There Is Magic All Around You

A week ago I turned Twenty years old! For quite awhile now I have promised myself I would buy a sewing machine and learn to sew. Here's my birthday present to myself! I'm excited, Knowing how to sew opens up so many doors in design and makes it much easier to make things the way YOU want them to look!

I love this fixture, Very 70's but it has great shape. Imagine the color scheme changed up a bit.
The best designers of all and always an inspiration. ANTS!
Just plain creepy.

Favorite inspiration of the day. This building makes me want to sit down and watch "Broadcast" I could base a whole look off of this building, seriously.

Looks pretty slummy at the moment but I LOVED this piece of property. Imagine a tropical row-house kinda feel. Not tropical colors but plants of course. Center staircase and the balcony would make this place pop. SO much potential!
Another view, I love how it's connected to two buildings, probably an afterthought.

June 9th, 2011 Inspirations

Today I went through one of the older, low income neighborhoods in my city on the search for cool color schemes, amazing texture and tones and anything else that would catch my attention and inspire to the fullest. I am always fascinated by what people do to bring beauty and happiness into they're lives. It is inspiring to me that low income or not we all want beauty in our lives. Necessity is the mother of invention!

I love the contrast in styles, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Prickly Pear & Palms=Perfect. Who knew?

I love the pure bolt of joy that Esperanza brings.

Quite an amazing shape, I have no clue what the shadow was coming from!
A beautiful color scheme.
Makes me want a slop sink, so useful!

Storybook Style

I want you to feel like Cinderella, Snow White, the prince in Rapunzel, Your choice.

I feel that one of the best factors of design is that you can create your own fantasy. This doesn't mean mini castles and moats(unless your into that kinda thing, go for it! I'm sure someone could pull it off!)

Think about it, You can come home to a space you love, You can walk into the garden of Eden.

Open your eyes, absorb.

Tomorrow marks the first day of daily inspiration walks with Mickey.

Don't worry, I won't forget the camera! :D

What is your fantasy space? Please, be descriptive!
