Secret passages

I have a story for you.

When I was around the age of 6 I went to a friends birthday party, his house was a 70's casa with beautiful carved wood double front doors. After all the gift giving and pizza eating we all headed up stairs to play football in one of the rooms(bad plan parents, bad plan.) Someone threw the football too hard and it hit the bookcase and what do you know, THE BOOKCASE OPENED! I swear its true! Behind it was a little storage room filled with many, many artificial Christmas tree's.

I can only say having an experience like this at six sparks your imagination! From then on I have loved the idea of a secret room, I went around tapping all the walls when we moved to a new house at seven, Clue was my favorite movie for years.

Here are a couple photos to spark your imagination!

The best part about secret passages is they do not have to be elaborate, ingenious or expensive. Hollow out a floorboard or hide your money behind a picture, the point is to have fun with it and get creative(And smart too!)

Stay passionate!

  1. I've always been fascinated by secret passages...mostly due to reading Nancy Drew! Haha. I was convinced my house had one when I was little. If I'm ever well-off enough to have my own house built, it's totally going to have secret passages.

  2. So cool! I wonder why they had a room full of artificial trees? I was trying to figure out a way to make a secret room in my house recently but I don't think it's possible. I would love to just pull on a candle stick and open the gateway to a secret hideout!

The room was filled with lots of Christmas stuff! I remember my friends mom was so angry because she was afraid we would get stuck in there. (The door opened in but didn't have a handle on the other side, so if you closed it you were stuck.)

Use your imagination! Maybe hollow out a few books for your own little secret spots!

    Thanks for the comment!

  4. Jamie-

Growing up I had a bunch of the original Hardy Boy books! I know the feeling, though you don't have to be well off to have secret passages! If I ever have kids I have decided to put a wardrobe as the doorway into they're playroom.
