Chalkboard Paint: Cliché

I apologize. Someone has to blow the whistle.

It's true...I too love the functionality and D.I.Y ease of painting something with chalkboard paint and have taken part in this trend.

Chalkboard paint is wonderful because it adds contrast to a space, is easily changeable and extremely functional for making lists, writing down ideas, leaving love notes...
But come'on!

I hope I'm not the only one who feels like this trend has gone a little overboard(Think birds on everything...that kinda overboard.) It seems like nearly every post on many of the major design blogs(not naming names.) features a chalkboard in the kitchen, on the fridge, anywhere! This trend is no longer surprising, exciting or inspiring. I think it's time to look into new ways of making notes. It can still be easy, it can still be edgy, but please lets not make it chalky.

Stay Inspired!

  1. Well said! I too love the trend but as with everything, the blog world can get little one-directional with anything trendy. Yes, lets stay inspired and lets think with fresh eyes :)

  2. La Boheme-

There are a few things I can't stand seeing anymore! Chalkboard anything, Fiddleleaf figs(yes, they are beautiful...but please.) and last but not least that one fabric that there are so many variations of. It's almost stencil like, bohemian feeling with a kinda Moroccan vibe. Beautiful, I have used it but man I feel like it's in EVERY HOUSE! There are so many untapped beauties, why use one over and over?

    Thank you for your comment!

  3. Wow! From the looks of those pictures the trend has definitely gotten out of hand. That's crazy.. I can't imagine an entire wall or my dining room having chalkboard paint. What are people thinking?!

It started off fun, but has now turned into design disaster!
